Thank you and safe travels to Rotarians Jillian Gibson and Greg Peddle as they leave Saturday, September 12, 2015 to travel to Zimbabwe.

In April 2015, the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest assembled a 40 foot container filled with hospital equipment, medical supplies, tools, machinery parts and general household goods.  This container was shipped to Zimbabwe, leaving Canada in April and arriving in late August.

Once they arrive in Africa, Jillian and Greg, along with other volunteers, will provide hands-on support to the hospital community in Tshelanyemba, Zimbabwe. During their visit, the team will unload and distribute the container goods;  work with local workers in repairing the water system and the tractor along with instructing on the use of the tools for general maintenance and upkeep of the hospital and grounds; instruct the hospital staff and students on the use of the new equipment and wound care; and work with the local schools for the distribution of the school supplies and provide materials to teach about nutrition with the goal of increasing health outcomes.

In addition to the container, support from the general public and the Rotary community has enabled the group to order 100 new mattresses from a nearby city which will be delivered while the team is in Zimbabwe.
