Celebrity Gala Dinner and Auction Event - 2007
On March 31st, 2007 our Club held a Celebrity Gala Dinner and Auction event to raise funds for the St. John’s Northwest Rotary Foundation and the Cancer Care Foundation.
The event was a tremendous success raising over $100,000 to be split between the St. John’s Northwest Rotary Club, and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. We had silent and live auctions of one-of-a-kind items, entertainment by Siochana, wonderful speeches from Brian Tobin and John Crosbie and auctioneering from none other than Snook! The night was topped off with a delicious three course dinner, complimentary wine and champagne, great company and dancing into the wee hours of the morning!
Proceeds from the event will fund a current St. John’s Northwest Rotary "Special Project" supporting the development of an outdoor recreation space in the Buckmaster's Circle neighbourhood of St. John's. The site of the new park is a 4.6 acre undeveloped area right in the heart of the city's centre, where an area of 1 sq km with over 240 children under the age of 14 years has no open air play space available for play. The auction proceeds will contribute $50,000 to the project, which is half the funding required. The City of St. John’s is providing the remainder of the necessary financial support needed to develop the area, and has also committed to maintain the park once it is completed.
The Dr. H. Bliss Mruphy Cancer care Foundation portion of the proceeds will provide for the continued support of Cancer Patients and their families provided by the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
Thanks to our many sponsors and to all those who attended and supported the event! Your contribution will make a tangible difference in our community, and in the lives of the people our foundations assist.
