2008 Auction and Gala Dinner

(St. John’s, Newfoundland) The Daffodil Place Campaign is pleased to announce that the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest has chosen to support Daffodil Place for their 2008 Auction and Gala Dinner. The group is raising $50,000.00 and will be naming a Daffodil Patient Suite in honour of the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest.

The Auction and Gala Dinner will be held on May 3rd, at the Fairmont Hotel. Honorary Patron will be Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea, and Co-Patron will be Edwin (Ed) Drover, a prominent St. John’s businessman. Billy & The Bruisers will provide entertainment. Tickets can be purchased by calling 758-7471.

Alan Doyle, signer/songwriter for Great Big Sea and member of the Daffodil Place Campaign Cabinet said “Service clubs such as Rotary do an exceptional amount of work throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout the world. There are immensely valuable ways in which Rotary members help make our communities better. I believe, and often say, that volunteers are what make our communities work”.

Ed Drover, on behalf of the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest, said “The Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest loves the Daffodil Place Campaign! Together, we’ll make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. We share a passion for creating a better community, and our Daffodil Place Campaign auction and gala dinner is “passing the passion” on for everyone to join in, have fun, and support a great cause.”

Founded in 1965, The Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest has undertaken several significant projects both locally and internationally, including the Janeway Hostel and the Rotary Manor. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self.”

A project of the Canadian Cancer Society, the construction of Daffodil Place has begun with the building opening in early 2009. This facility will provide accommodations for those who must travel to St. John's for cancer treatment. In addition to offering a home away from home when it means the most, Daffodil Place will provide emotional and practical support for cancer patients and their families.
