Rotary Cookbook
Since 2000, the Rotary Club of St. John's Northwest has produced a series of four small cookbooks, based on recipes provided by Rotarians. Each had the leading title of A Taste of Newfoundland and Labrador, followed by a specific subtitle. In 2000 we linked to the Province's celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of the establishment of the Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows, with the sub-title, With a Viking Flavour.
In 2001 the Province celebrated the 100th anniversary of Marconi's receipt of the first wireless transmission across the Atlantic Ocean, so our volume that year was sub-titled With Italian on the Side. After a year's interlude, we re-entered the publishing world in 2003 with Our Berries and Fruit, and followed that in 2004 with Seafood Delights.
With print runs averaging 2,000 copies per volume, we were assisted in distribution by our local newspaper, The Telegram, who used the cookbooks in their marketing programs. Our own Rotarians also sold copies to their families and friends, and our club's community service coffers were modestly but nicely bolstered by the proceeds from each of the titles.
With this success under our belts, and an offer of continued support from The Telegram, a fifth issue, sub-titled Our Berries and Fruit, Volume 2, was released in early 2005.
A sixth issue in the series, sub-titled Desserts to Die For, is scheduled for release in Spring 2006
