Buckmasters - Room Makeover
On Saturday, May 26th, Rotary NW's resident "Paint Crew" (Dave Fowler, Heddy
Peddle, Tim Kavanagh, and Tim's son Sean) put a fresh coat of paint on the
Homework Room at the Buckmaster's Circle Community Centre. There was also
considerable help from some of the centre's staff and adult volunteers from the
neighbourhood.
It is fair to say that the Centre's Executive Director, Bonnie James, was beside
herself with delight -- first, that we were had agreed to paint their room;
second, that we actually showed up to do it; and thirdly, that we finished it so
quickly and that the 'new' room looked soo-o-o good. She had had fear and
trepidation about the whole thing, and was so relieved that the whole thing went
so smoothly. She was really, really pleased.
This was our club's second, hands-on, Homework Room Makeover. In January we
painted the room at the Virginia Park Community Centre, with great success. In
June (date yet to be announced) we have agreed to take on a third and final
Homework Room -- this one at the Froude Avenue Community Centre. Each of these
projects has included a $500 donation to the Community Centre to cover cost of
the paint and supplies, and anything else needed for the project. Our club can
be proud of these hands-on projects which have revitalized the rooms at three
Community Centres.

(Tim Kavanagh hard at work.)

(We had lots of help from staff and neeghbours.)

(Tim's son, Sean, had a day off school. Tim is starting him early! Sean
did an excellent job for us.)

(Community Centre Alliance staffer, Jody Holloway (a former RYLA
participant in BC), did lots of work. Here's she's cutting the corners, and we
get a peek at the two colours chosen for this room.)

(Executive Director Bonnies James was overwhelmed with the whole project.
Really delighted.)

(Tim's son, Sean, busy as a bee. )

(Tim Kavanagh hard at work.)

(Gravity worked its magic on the blood in Dave Fowler's arms all morning
-- he groaned from time to time, especially while he was painting the ceiling!
Sorry, Dave.)

(Here's the room just about completed. Everyone was quite pleased.)
