Rotary Food Drive 2007

Unlike 2006, this year we awoke to perfect weather conditions for the Rotary-Salvation Army Food Drive. Hurricane Noel delayed his arrival on the Rock by 24 hours so that we could have a perfect fall day in which to make the rounds. And what was shaping up to be a very low turnout in the days before the Food Drive was turned around and attendence was excellent. The guidance counsellors from Prince of Wales Collegiate managed to visit every classoom Friday morning to get additional students commited. In all about 60 PWC students showed up to complement the approximately 20 Rotarians (Heddy has the attendence sheet).

A great amount of food was raised, attesting to the generosity of Newfoundlanders. Many of the bags collected from each household had four or five items in them. The Salvation Army food bank is now replenished just in time for the Christmas rush. Thanks to all the Rotarians who came out Saturday morning and many thanks to the students for their dedication to this worthy cause.
