Northwest Rotary Community Housing Inc. (Rotary Manor)

Rotary Manor, a 46-unit housing complex on Empire Avenue West in St. John's, was built in 1988 under the initiative and leadership of our club. Built at a cost of $4,100,000, Rotary Manor remains one of our club's most ambitious and successful projects. Its undertaking involved a high degree of commitment from all our members, who were challenged to seek out all possible sources of funding to raise the capital required and who worked together harmoniously to complete the task.

The Manor offers affordable, comfortable and secure housing for seniors, single parents and physically challenged individuals. The combination of these sectors of our society into a single housing complex makes Rotary Manor unique, and the residents warmly welcome each other to the complex. We feel it is this mix that makes the Manor so successful, and the Board managing the complex makes great effort to retain this mix of tenants. The constant waiting list for available housing units attests to the value placed on the Manor by the tenants it serves.

Operation of Rotary Manor is carefully managed by a Board of Rotarians from our club, who continue to dedicate their time to this worthy project. The Board ensures smooth day-to-day operation of the Manor, overseeing the allocation of units as they are vacated, and maintenance required.

Board members of Rotary Manor in 2004-2005 are:
Chairman: Ed Drover; Directors: Bob Colford, Sharon Duggan, Frank Fowler, John O'Reilly, and Will Small. In addition, the current President of our club (in 2004-2005, it is Lucy Dobbin) is also considered a Director on the Rotary Manor Board.
