Literacy Rocks Festival - Reading Circle

Thanks to planning by Karen Goodnough and Brenda Lockyer, on Sunday September 18, 2005 our club hosted a reading circle at the "Literacy Rocks Festival", organized by the local Community Centre Alliance to cap off the Summer.

The theme for our reading circle was "Apples". Rotarians were scheduled to read stories related to apples to children aged 2 to 6 years. Children also made an apple bookmark and were given a free apple (donated by Sobey's).

The festival was scheduled to be held outdoors in Bowring Park but was moved indoors to the St. John's Recreation Centre on Buckmasters Circle because of bad weather. Unfortunately in the indoor setting we were only able to hold one reading session because the musical entertainment drowned out our efforts for the rest of the afternoon. Rotarian Steve Morrisey made a valiant effort, and did have a good group for our only reading.
