ROTARY GIVES $7,000 TOWARDS NEW SCOUT COOKHOUSE

The Rotary Club of St. John's Northwest has donated $7,000 towards the cost of building a new cookhouse for the 1st MacPherson Scout Group's "Camp MacShack" at Burnt Cove on the Southern Shore. The Scouts' old cookhouse, built in the 1960s, has been condemned. With more that 1,000 youth using the camp facilities every year, a new cookhouse is integral to the comfort and usability of the camp. Building plans for a new 24 ft x 32 ft cookhouse have been donated, and the donation of construction labour is being finalized. The new cookhouse will be ready for the 2006 camping season.
