New Virigina Park Basketball Court
Official Opening - October 10, 2006
Supporting the building of a Basketball Court in Virginia Park was an easy decision for our St. Johns Northwest Rotary board – it promotes physical and team activity and fosters health and wellness within the community! The official opening of the court took place on October 10, 2006 with our President, Sandra Patterson, and several other Rotarians present for the ribbon cutting.

City Council Presentation
In 2005, Rotary approved the funding of this basketball court proposal for Virginia Park ($10,000). The City of St. John’s cost shared in this project with a 50/50 funding model. It was with great pleasure that our President, Sandi Patterson, provided the cheque from the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest to Mayor Andy Wells at the regular city council meeting on October 10, 2006, to finalize the project transaction.

Rotary Presence in Virginia Park
The funding of the basketball court was not St. John’s Rotary Northwest’s first involvement working in the Virginia Park area. In the past, we have completed a room make-over at the community centre (we provided painting supplies and had Rotarians paint a room), we have purchased uniforms for children’s programs and have provided books to the local school, to list a few past projects.
