Historical Overview of the Colony of Avalon

Mike Harrington will provide a historical overview of the Colony of Avalon located in Ferryland. The presentation will touch on the early history of the Colony and explore the more recent history of the archaeological site and the rich trove of artifacts found on the site. The on-going cooperative relationship with Memorial University of Newfoundland will be presented in a short video. The presentation will include a discussion of the business side of the Colony of Avalon Foundation that was established in the 1990s and will address the finances and operation of the facility and archaeological site as an anchor tourist attraction in the Province, as well as the recent and future challenges faced by the Colony of Avalon.
