Penny’s presentation will focus on the “community sector” and its role alongside the public and private sectors in the province’s economic and social progress. Often referred to as the nonprofit or voluntary sector, the community sector is complex and diverse with a broad array of purposes as evidenced in the thousands of organizations including charities, registered nonprofits, informal voluntary groups, and social enterprises which are woven into every facet of our daily life.

The presentation will look at the diversity of the sector, highlight its role as an economic driver and its collective impact. Penny will discuss the unique role of the Community Sector Council, its many tentacles throughout the province and its current priorities. She will discuss some of the strengths and challenges for the sector and thoughts for advancing and reimagining its important role.
