Our Club has recently donated $8,500 to the Brother Rice Celtic Chef program.  Formerly know as the Brother Rice “Soup Club” (as featured in numerous news articles over the past few years)  - the Celtic Chefs, along with teachers at the school, create meals for students to have at lunch time, and to take home to their families for a healthy supper. This has proven extremely popular for the most vulnerable students and by being inclusive has lessened the stigma associated with accessing this type of assistance.   In addition to providing much needed meals for students, this program allows students to  gain skills such as meal preparation and leadership. It allows them to appreciate the role of community service and develop empathy for their classmates.  Our donation will allow for over 3,000 meals (100 per week x 30 weeks) to be prepared, as well as allow the Chefs to transition to a sustainable model for cutlery and flatware.
