Daffodil Place
Daffodil Place
In our Auction this past year, the St. John's Northwest Rotary Club raised $90,000 which was split between Daffodil Place and the clubs other community projects (including Marguerites' Place). This year approximately 2,500 people in our province will be diagnosed with cancer and will enter the medical system for treatment. In addition there are hundreds who were diagnosed previously and are still receiving treatment or follow-ups.There are several regional cancer centres across the province, however, radiation therapy is only available in St. John's, as are some colorectal cancer treatments and other specialized cancer care. Of the total number of cancer patients in Newfoundland and Labrador, more than 50% have to leave the supportive surroundings of their families and their communities to receive medical treatment in St. John's.
The Project:
- The building will contain 24 rooms designed specifically for those living with cancer. Each room will offer the comforts of home and the privacy that will help the patients on the road to recovery.
- Daffodil Place will provide meal services, emotional and practical support programs, access to information and in-treatment wellness programs. Transportation to care facilities and appointments will be available.
- Support products for cancer patients such as wigs, turbans and mastectomy kits will be available at Daffodil Place. Programs in cancer prevention and healthy living will be offered to the community at large.
- Daffodil Place will be located at the corner of Empire Avenue and Ropewalk Lane. The property formerly known as the Elim Tabernacle Church is being reconstructed to become Daffodil Place. The main structure consists of a 17,422 square foot building church that will be renovated into a 24,000 square foot facility. The property site is 2.47 acres. The St. John's Northwest Rotary Club is pleased to be a contributor to a project that will make a significant difference to the health and well-being of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador!
